CUSTOM ORTHOTICS

100% hand-crafted orthotics from raw materials

What are custom made orthotics?

Custom-made orthotics are medical devices that support and gently reposition the heels, arches, muscles, ligaments, tendons, and bones of the feet, enabling them to work together, as nature intended, to make each step you take pain-free.   Unlike shoe inserts bought over the counter, custom-made orthotics are made using molds of your feet to meet your unique needs.  They can be specially designed to match your foot type and / or medical condition and fit in a variety of footwear such as:  dress shoes, sport/performance shoes, sandals, work boots, children’s shoes and many more.

An important success factor of Protherapy Ortotic Lab is our on-site lab that allows us to manufacture the orthotics ouselves. We oversee and conduct the entire process from the intial assessment and foot casting to the complete manufacture of the custom-made orthotics. Not only does this improve turn-around time (for both the fabrication of the initial orthotics as well as any ongoing adjustments and modifications), it also allows us to achieve our goal of exceptional quality at all stages of manufacture.

Benefits of custom made orthothics

Depending on the design, orthotics can cushion and support your foot by redistributing the pressure areas on your feet. They can also be designed to support and improve the alignment of the bones in your feet and legs. Improper foot alignment can lead to a wide variety of foot, knee, and lower back problems. By improving the alignment the body is able to function more efficiently with less stress on the muscles and ligaments that hold you together.

Our Process

1. ASSESSMENT

We thoroughly evaluate our patients using slow-motion video and treadmill analysis. Our goal is to determine the cause of pain in order to properly treat it.

2. CASTING

We use plaster casting to obtain the optimal neutral position of our patients’ feet and ankles. This creates a plaster negative (shell).

3. SHELL FILLS

The shells are filled with plaster to obtain positive casts. This creates the actual three dimentional models of the patients’ feet.

4. SHELL MODIFICATION

The positive casts are assessed and modified (smoothed/sculpted) in preparation for the fabrication of the orthotic shell.

5. VACUUM PRESSED

The recommended orthotic shell material is heated and vacuum pressed over the positive cast to create the raw orthotic.

6. GRINDING

The raw orthotic shells are cut/ground/buffed in order to fit the patient’s footwear.
